The HESA Events & Community Service Committee is so immensely proud to announce that our Socks & Supplies Drive benefiting the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter ended with EVERY item checked off the list!! We started with a goal of 100 donations - and thanks to you - we got there in a week. We increased the goal to 200 donations - and thanks to donors like you - we got there, too. We had to add 40 more items close to the end of the fundraiser because more people wanted to help us help our community - and we closed the event with 240 donors!
240 donations = over 7,495 individual items and pairs of items! Items like 4 Chromebooks the shelter used to create a laptop borrowing program so clients can connect with family & friends via the internet, do paperwork, and look for work - 800 pairs of hand warmers for our clients on the streets and enough plates to serve 1,100 meals - and so many more wonderful items. These 7,495 items will help the shelter continue to serve the clients daily and assist the clients outside the shelter, too. So, thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts.
**We wanted to give a big shout out to one donor in particular - Sergei. He purchased our elite item (a washer/dryer unit) and when the shelter landlords decided we wouldn’t be able to install it this year, Sergei gladly canceled that item and used the same dollar amount to purchase more donations from the list. Thank you, Sergei!**
We also want to say thank you to PBHA for being a wonderful partner in this event and we look forward to continuing to work with our fellow Harvard community members to do good in this world. And to all of our donors - another big thank you!
